ABOUT: Happy Place
These photographs were made from scans of uncut vintage slide film that I bought at the Mauerpark market in Berlin. They showed gardens and vacations, offering glimpses into the daily lives of East German people. Several rolls were double exposed, moving in and out of time and space, and all were tightly wound, uncut, and unmounted, and had clearly never made it back to their original owners from the photo lab. I scanned the film, zooming in and out to let colors and images gather and dissolve.
Happy Place was made in Berlin during a residency funded by the University of Minnesota and DAAD in 2014.
